Roadsters, girls dressed like Betty Page, tattoos and music provided by some of Salt Lake City’s best bands. I ask you, how could anyone pass up the invitation to attend SLC Pin Up With Ink Launch Party at Bar Deluxe?

I was excited by the prospect of ogling some vintage cars; cheering on the dolls competing in the Pin-Up Girl pageant; admiring (or envying) the tattoo artistry provided by Deviant Tattoos; and rocking with the Suicycles and others.

You can imagine my disappointment, I’m sure, when I received a text message from our own Darby Doll just as I was leaving for Bar Deluxe informing me there were no classic cars to be seen, and nothing happing until the pin-up contest at 9pm. Ah, geez, oh well, at least I have everything else to look forward to. Arriving at 9:07 was a mistake as the pin-up girls were just finishing up their trot across the stage. I did get to see the girls milling about the bar, though, and Salt Lake can be proud of our pin-ups.

Despite the lack of cars (a few were parked in front of the bar by the time I arrived, but nothing that could be called a car show), I had a good time. The three bands I saw were great! There were many attractive people to spy. And the sexy Alexz presented a staggering array of alcoholic cupcakes for sale -guaranteed to make you stagger. (What an amazing concept: Cupcakes AND booze all in one!).

I’ve got to sing the praises of the bands. Regular readers already know the Suicycles are unofficially Mr. Salt Lake’s official blog band, and for good reason. I will admit to shaking a little bootie while singing along to “I’m just another SL,UT in your slut army” at the end of their set. Also onstage were Dirty Blonde, and The Last Look, the latter taking the prize for having the most animated bassist of any band I’ve seen in ages.

I look forward to a bigger and better event next year. Until then you can be sure I’ll be making regular visits to Bar Deluxe -one of my favourite watering holes.

(Neck) shave and a haircut…

…152 bits, aka $19 bucks in post colonial period money (thanks Wikipedia). MLS’s hair was getting a little shaggy, and thanks to the good old Facebook I was made aware of Jed’s Barber Shop. This place is awesome! This old skool rockn’ Americana barbershop has it all. Everything from Ice cold glass bottled soda pop as you wait for your cut, Thundercats action figures on the register, and vintage magazines to thumb though as you soak in the uber hip atmosphere. I opted for the upgrade which includes the $4 Shampoo and head massage. I encourage the same, a little pampering goes along way. Like most barbershops it’s a walk in only policy. I pared up with Desiree, she was a delight and had me walking away looking like a sexy beast! If you need a tad more loving for your hairdo Jed’s also offers full salon services by appointment. Including a full European straight razor shave for only $24! This is defiantly in on the MSL’s do to list!
